Lead and Follow
I have recently started taking ballroom dance lessons and have been learning how much dancing is similar to our walk with God. In dancing, the gentlemen’s role is to be the lead while the lady’s role is to follow. Our life with God is very much the same except God is the lead over each of us and we are to follow. I led a lady student through a dance recently. As we were traveling around the dance floor, we approached the end of the dance floor where we met up with two other couples on a near collision course (so my partner thought). The lady I was dancing with became focused on the other couples instead of following my lead. She turned her head around to the other couples, separating herself from me. She starting looking for where to move and then stopped in her tracks unwilling to follow the next steps I had for us. She stopped trusting my lead and began to focus on others around her, engaging with them instead of me as her lead.
When you find yourself in or approaching a situation, where do you focus? Are you staying connected to God, or are you focused on the things moving around you? Lean into God and follow His way out of the situation. He has a plan to get you out of every situation you are in. It may not look like any plan you develop on your own, but trust in Him.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
