God Is Speaking
Throughout this week my thoughts keep returning to an interaction that I had with God a few days ago. I was putting a crockpot back in its original box, and could not find the twist tie for the power cord. The last place I had seen it was on the counter where I had placed it a few minutes before. After a few moments off searching for it unsuccessfully, I decide to ask the Lord. “Lord,” I asked, “Where is the twist tie?” Immediately I clearly heard His voice in my mind say, “Look on the floor.” I looked down at my feet, and sure enough there lay the missing twist tie.
This conversation with God has impacted me a lot this week as it serves as proof that I do hear from the Lord. When I felt discouraged or thought that I had to spend a large portion of time with Him in order to hear from Him, He would remind me of how He responded right away and I heard His voice distinctly. What an alive, active, and awesome God we serve!
“David inquired of the LORD, ‘Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?’ He answered him, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue.’” 1 Samuel 30:8 (ESV)
“And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, ‘Behold, three men are looking for you. Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.’” Acts 10:19-20 (ESV)
Our God is not a distant God, rather One who is personal. He desires to be a part of every aspect of our lives- even to the simplest of things like looking for a missing twist tie. He wants to have two way conversations with us. He wants us to go to Him first with all our needs. He wants to be our all. Are you willing to let Him have an active speaking role in your life? He is talking. Are you listening?
“’But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.’” John 14:26 (ESV)
“’When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.’” John 16:13
