Focus on The Road Ahead
The other day I was driving back from work and when I was turning in front of my house to go up my driveway, my mind started focusing on my grass and how it was long and needed to be cut. A second later I ended up smacking right into the curb across from my house. My tire ripped from the impact and by the time I was up my driveway and in my garage all the air in my tire had escaped.
Our focus on God works the same way. We should always keep our focus solely on God alone. As soon as we get distracted with life or anything else around us and choose to take our focus off God, we start heading for the wrong direction. Once we become aware of where we are going we can choose to turn back our focus to God or go our own blind way. In our own strength we are unable to bring ourselves back to God. We must surrender ourselves and call out to God and He will bring us back into His arms. All we need to do is respond and follow His prompting of where He wants us. God desires willing hearts. Remain focused on Him and understand that He is our direction and the one lighting up the road ahead of us.
“To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in you I trust;
let me not be put to shame;
let not my enemies exult over me.
Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
Make me to know your ways, O LORD;
teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long.
Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for the sake of your goodness, O LORD!
Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
For your name’s sake, O LORD,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
Psalm 25:1-11 (ESV)
Who’s plan are you going to follow? Your own? Or God’s? Lift yourself up to God. He’s big enough to guide you. Ask Him to show you His path for you, He will show you. “All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies” (Psalm 25:10). Will you keep your focus on Him and where He is taking you or will you end up losing focus and run yourself into a curb?
“Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.”
Proverbs 4:25 (ESV)
