Do NOT Stop
I have the opportunity to learn new dance steps during my ballroom dance lessons; we typically focus on one move for the entire lesson. Since I am focused on the one move, it seems relatively easy to grasp and perform. On Friday nights we have dance parties where I am able to put into motion what was taught during previous lessons. Dancing during the party is more challenging than dancing during lessons since I am not dancing in isolation but have to dance as I react and respond to others who are also moving around the dance floor. I also have a long list of dance steps that were taught that I could select from. At times I fumble through some of the steps I just learned even though I thought I understood them. Sometimes I am not sure what move to do, and I want to freeze. I can hear my dance instructor in my ear saying, “Keep dancing.”
We learn about God and ourselves through many means. We go to church or bible studies and typically one item is being taught. During studies I have thoughts such as: “That was really good,” “That impacted me, I needed to hear that” or “I am going to do that”. At that time I often think that it will be easy to implement in my life, and I walk out with the intention to do something, but often don’t.
We can get excited about being able to complete something in isolation, but it sometimes becomes more difficult to do when we get out into the world. The world doesn’t stop to allow us to put into practice what was taught. We must move forward and put our lessons into action even though it seems really hard or we are not doing it perfectly. Stating words such as “I am going to do that” is meaningless unless it is followed up by actions. Sometimes we may mess up or make a mistake, but don’t let that stop you from living the Truth. When you get out in the world, do not allow the changing situations around to drive you to be idle from living the truth. Follow through with what God is telling you. We are not going to live perfectly, but we must step out and put into action what God is teaching us. God is looking for us to walk with Him.
